My friend sent me this picture earlier today and it made me chuckle. It got me thinking about how important humour can be in our organisations.
Used in the right way, it can:
-diffuse awkwardness
-improve engagement
-elevate culture
-provide respite from the heaviness of the mission/task at hand
I worked with a leader a few years ago who used humour so well that everyone wanted to collaborate with him. He radiated positive energy, elevated the buzz in the office and you could really tell that people wanted to be there. One of our colleagues once remarked “you’re the thing that gets me through the Monday morning blues” and I think she spoke for several people.
Have you ever worked with someone who was genuinely funny?
Do you think humour is important in leadership? Or is it just me?
